Honor roll awards are given to students in grades 3rd to 5th. Excellent Eagle awards are given to students in all grades. The names of the students will be announced at the first elementary flag ceremony after the distribution of report cards and a list of the candidates will be posted in the patio. Students in grades 3rd to 5th who receive all E’s and two B+ will receive Honor Roll for the quarter. Excellent Eagle awards are given according to the criteria of the Excellent Eagle Checklist. The Excellent Eagle Checklist will be posted in the Faculty Room. Students of the third, fourth and fifth grades will be allowed to recommend other students for Excellent Eagle, with an explanation of why the candidate deserve the recommendation. This is done confidentially.
Honor Roll student receive a certificate. Honor Roll and Excellent Eagle are given out quarterly. A student can make Excellent Eagle four times a year.
President’s Award for Educational Excellence the student should have made Honor Roll for all grading periods and at least have made once Excellent Eagle during the school year. President’s Award for Educational Excellence is meant to encourage and reward students who work hard and give their best efforts in school.
The elementary Principal circulates the list of nominees to all teachers and staff member to insure that none of the students on the list are uncooperative in other areas and to give them a chance to make nominations. Teachers take out names of the list according to the checklist. To become an Excellent Eagle the student must excel in eight out of the eleven points.
EXCELLENT EAGLE CHECKLIST
- Respects the schools regulations:
- Dresses and grooms in a manner which satisfies the school dress code.
- Comes to school on time each day, except for unavoidable personal emergencies or serious illness.
- Communicates in a positive, cheerful, courteous and enthusiastic manner to peers and adults. Address adults with formal courtesy and titles.
- Accepts criticism and suggestions in a positive manner. Accepts failure and disappointment as learning experiences and moves ahead with new solutions.
- Seeks to constantly say and do things which improve the school and the school’s spirit. Seeks harmony and success for groups in which they work.
- When working in teams, keeps the good of the whole team in mind.
- Shows desire to serve others in and outside of the school. Is aware of his/her environment and tries to improve it.
- Shows leadership in the classroom, on the playground and in school activities..
- Strives for excellence in every task.
- Displays the very highest standards of honesty, truthfulness, and decency.
- Reports major problems to adults at once or solves them among peers (fellow students).
- Represents the COJOWA spirit with a genuine effort to speak English to other students, while in the office, and other areas outside the classroom.
